Council Chairman

A council chairman, chairwoman or chairperson is responsible for leading meetings of council officers. An organization’s council chairman broadly has the following responsibilities:

• Presiding over meetings of the council
• Making sure meetings run in an orderly fashion
• Fostering consensus amongst council officers

The council chairman will be chosen differently depending on the organization and nature of the office. In most organizations, however, the council chairman will be elected by the council officers.
